Nearly six in ten of all decisions on major infrastructure are taken to court, and the government has vowed to stop the ‘blockers’ who bring ‘excessive’ legal challenges. But how can they win hearts and minds of the public?
Today the UK’s road to growth, says the government, lies in pressing on with bold projects – and the list is long. Heathrow’s third runway, new rail links, nine new reservoirs, a revamp of energy infrastructure and renewables, new EV charging, data centres, and the Lower Thames Crossing, not to mention 1.5 million new homes.
Over the 2030s, overall investment in infrastructure must rise to £70 to £80 billion a year, up from £55 billion in the past decade, according to a review by the National Infrastructure Commission
