I found my phone in the microwave today. I’d put it there alongside the porridge to charge in a moment of absent-mindedness. It’s been a difficult week.

Last Thursday we “celebrated” my daughter’s A-level results, and today my son receives his GCSE grades. And we are quaking. Two sets of public exams – a double whammy I’ve been dreading since they began secondary school. Imagine the revision, I thought. Today, I wish for that kind of normality. Such fears about revision and exam stress dwarf the upheaval of the past few days.
